In the public sector, they span healthcare (DH and NHS), Olympics, social care, policing, justice and work and pensions, while in the private sector, they include financial services, professional services and creative industries. An innovator with a demonstrable track record in transforming procurement and supply management to deliver strategic business value and £multi-millions in efficiencies.
Whilst National Director, NHS Procurement, Department of Health he was co-author of Better Procurement, Better Value, Better Care (August 2013), the strategy and programme for transforming NHS Procurement. Responsible for leading and delivering the national programme across all NHS non-pay spend of circa £22billion to secure efficiency savings of £2billion. Driving a complex programme of activities across major spend categories, key suppliers, national and regional delivery partners (eg: CCS, NHS Supply Chain), aligned to a long term programme of implementing and embedding key enablers and capability accelerators (eg: GS1 & NHS Centre for Procurement Efficiency).
- Previous experience includes: Procurement Director, Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust where he delivered a cost reduction programme across all non-pay spend (90+ complex categories including pharma) within a major acute provider to secure initial cash savings of circa £4m. Included leading negotiations with key suppliers to generate immediate savings, the procurement of a new ‘Orthopaedics marketplace’ (comprising 8 major NHS trusts) to deliver savings of circa 25%, and a design competition for HHFT’s new Cancer Centre.
- Rob has enjoyed commercial experience as Director of Commercial, Olympic Park Legacy Company. Delivered a high profile commercial programme with the prime objective of establishing long term (15+ year) contracts for all Estates and Facilities Management (EFM) and Sports and Events Management (including Venue operators) for the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, within aggressive timescales (prior to Games-time mobilisation), complex governance arrangements, and within budget as announced by the Prime Minister and Mayor of London.
- His other roles are no less as impressive and includes the London Development Agency, Metropolitan Police, Ernst & Young, Goldman Sachs, and NHS PASA.
- Rob is a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply and holds a BA(Hons) in Design from the University of Leeds.
