NHS South of England Procurement Services achieves NHS Procurement & Commercial Standards Level 2

This week it was announced that the Procurement Department (NHS South of England Procurement Services) achieved NHS Procurement & Commercial Standards Level 2 for both Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU) and Isle of Wight NHS Trust (IoW).

The NHS Procurement & Commercial Standards, launched in May 2012, are structured to enable Boards and other key stakeholders to assess and benchmark procurement performance and identify areas for improvement. They provide a framework for consistent approaches and practices, delivering benefits across the NHS in procurement performance.

The NHS Procurement & Commercial Standards are organised under six domains: Strategy & Organisation, People & Skills, Strategic Procurement, Supply Chain, Data Systems and Performance Management, and Policies & Procedures.

Associate Director of Procurement for PHU and IoW, Melvyn Lake, said: “I am very proud of the team and all the work they have undertaken. It’s great to see the recognition measured against a National Standard which has meant so much to the Procurement Team and the NHS Procurement profession.”

The Procurement Department employs 97 members of staff and is recognised as a leader both in and outside the NHS. The team has and will continue to innovate, lead and support change and strive for excellence in clinical and non-clinical areas across PHU and IoW.
